Along with a broad application range, this module offers considerable product-to-market advantages, including shorter development cycles and virtual prototyping before physical trials, thus replacing experimentation with optimization. CST Design Studio™ provides a powerful design environment in which the results from diverse simulators can be combined and analyzed. CST EM Studio® is a tool for the analysis and design of static and low frequency structures. CST Particle Studio® targets the simulation of free moving charged particles as in electron guns and cathode ray tubes. CST PCB Studio™ provides simulation of SI/PI and EMC/EMI on PCBs, and CST Cable Studio™ is used for the simulation and analysis of SI and EMC/EMI on cable harnesses. Learn more at the CST website. Software Simulates EMC Testing in a Variety of ApplicationsThe latest release of PAM-CEM Solutions from France’s ESI Group is a software package crafted to perform realistic and predictive EMC simulations for applications in the transportation, aeronautics, defense, telecommunications, and electronic sectors. Designed to simulate EMI testing, this package predicts both the EMI and the EMS (electromagnetic susceptibility) of electronic systems or products. Features of this software package include a dedicated environment that includes in one shared model all significant data beginning with native CAD files or existing data meshes; specialized capabilities for wires, bundles, and cabling—from a simplified harness to a full industrial cable network with more than a thousand wires; and dedicated functionalities for the simulation of realistic models including lossy dielectric grounds, wires exiting antennas, and absorbing materials. PAM-CEM operates directly in the time domain and allows for the rapid evaluation of electromagnetic phenomena relying on the widely used finite-difference time-domain method. EMBoard check targets PCB development applications. It comes with pre-defined rules that cover the most important SI and EMC related checks—rules that have been developed, verified, and tested by IBM engineers. Interfaces to all major PCB layout tools are available within EMBoardCheck. PCB CableSim can model typical 2D cable structures whether single-wire, twisted pairs, or multi-cabled. SLCableSpice is intended for the users of external SPICE simulators and quickly creates SPICE equivalents in various formats. EMHarness enables rule-based analysis of complex cable harnesses and allows the user to create unique rules for use within the software. Wood Associates enables RF designers to use Excel spreadsheets for the analysis of RF paths (cascade analysis). These spreadsheets offer the option of creating customized programs to predict the performance of the entire RF path. This new software package has been crafted to eliminate common errors that complicate RF analysis—typing incorrect component information, typing over formulas, and overlooking errors in formulas caused by adding or removing rows. This tool dynamically loads RF components from the library into the template spreadsheet and deletes extra rows based on the number of components in the RF path. The detailed RF spreadsheet is saved as a separate spreadsheet file. RF components are changed in only one place (not in each spreadsheet). Look for more product information on the R.A. Wood website.Test Software Package Works with Many Makes and Models of EquipmentEMITest™ Version 4.01 from CKC Laboratories has been crafted to work with many makes and models of test equipment. This latest version features an improved, more intuitive user interface and plots ambient sweep data against test data. Its turntable and antenna mast control works with most EMCO™ and Sunol Sciences turntable and antenna mast controllers. Also, its scripting ability defines a set of tasks to be performed in sequence, thus facilitating the various processes of the test procedure. Other features of this package include the exportation of test data to Microsoft Word™, Microsoft Excel™, HTML, or text formats; the option of changing the specification limit on an existing data sheet; and an immunity program that facilitates both radiated and conducted RF immunity testing. The calibration program will define various correction factors and will automatically calibrate many types of equipment. The harmonics calculator automatically determines the harmonics of the system clocks. More product information is available on the CKC Labs’ website.Advanced Software for PCI Express 2.0 Compliance TestingThe 86100CU-400 PLL and jitter spectrum management software from Agilent Technologies can make precise phase-locked loop (PLL) measurements, also called jitter transfer measurements. Used with Agilent’s 86100C DCA-J wideband oscilloscope, the software can test a wide variety of PLL designs and has been approved by the PCI-SIG® (PCI Special Interest Group) to perform PCI Express® (PCIe) PLL compliance measurements. This jitter spectrum measurement software is a free application that makes fast, accurate, and repeatable PLL measurements using a precision jitter source and receiver. The software also provides valuable insight into the root causes of jitter by recording jitter spectrum/phase measurements on data and clock signals. This package includes preconfigured setups and automated report generation to verify adherence to the PCIe 1.1 and 2.0 PLL compliance test guidelines, SONET/SDH jitter transfer tests, PCI Express reference clock measurements, spread-spectrum clocking (SSC) modulation analysis. This Microsoft® Excel-based application runs on an external PC or on an Agilent 86100C DCA-J wideband oscilloscope. A new finite hysteresis solver for soft magnetic materials provides designers of motors, generators, and other electrical machinery with accurate means of accounting for losses and predicting performance changes caused by hysteresis effects in the specialty electrical steels that are being used more frequently to enhance machine efficiency. This new solver is based on actual BH (magnetic induction and applied field) characteristics. The turning points of the B (H) trajectory are used to predict the behavior of arbitrary minor hysteresis loops, providing a good approximation of true physical behavior with requiring extensive computation. The tool is provided with ready-to-use characteristics for some common silicon steel materials, and the library can be expanded easily using data from a manufacturer’s datasheet or by real-world measurements using an Epstein frame. This new hysteresis solver complements Vector Fields’ DEMAG electromagnetic modeling software permanent or hard magnet materials. For more information, check the Vector Fields’ website.
