Ruckus Wireless, Inc. has partnered with Smartac Group China Holdings Limited (Smartac) to help build smart Wi-Fi networks for China’s railway system. Networks are currently being developed in more than 300 railway stations in Beijing, Guangzhou and Lanzhou.
The goal of the project is to offer all railway passengers high-performance Wi-Fi and to upgrade China’s railway system. Railway station operators will also have real-time passenger data with the new networks.
“The entire project is designed to make China’s railway passenger stations ‘Smart stations.’ These new Smart stations are part of the emerging global trend to create Smart cities. The concept involves using state-of-the-art communications technology that improves municipal operations and services to enhance the way of life for residents and visitors of major urban centers,” according to MarketWatch.
The companies also plan to develop a Ruckus Virtual SmartZone Controller for network management in the cloud.
