Model PL7004 (800 MHz – 3.6 GHz / 80 – 800 V/m) from AR RF Microwave Instrumentation is a new laser-powered E-field probe for measuring the E-fields in radiated immunity testing and in GMW3097 and Ford ES-XW7T-1A278-AC automotive radar pulse tests. This device has been crafted to measure the RMS value of the “on time” of a pulsed electric field. Each probe is supplied with basic calibration data. The PL7004 has an internal microprocessor to provide linearization, temperature compensation, and control and communication functions. Noise reduction and temperature compensation allow accurate measurements without zero adjustment. This probe’s laser power supports continuous operation without battery recharging or replacement. This device communicates and is powered through glass fiber optic cables up to 100 meters long and connected to an F1700 interface. X, Y, Z, and composite readings can be returned through the interface in 20 milliseconds. It can measure pulsed E-fields with pulse rates as low as 200 Hz and pulse widths as short as 1 µs.
