The DSF500 from XP Power is a 500-W active filter unit for use in harsh electrical environments. It has been crafted to protect DC-DC converters from the surges, spikes, and ripples that are typically found within the electrical system of any military platform—such as aircraft or vehicles. This filter complies with MIL-STD 1275A-D without the incorporation of any additional components. Platform-mounted systems can utilize standard industrial DC-DC converters without the risk of failure or damage caused by supply transients or noise. Input voltage is within the range of 10 to 34 VDC, and output voltage is tracked and clamped to below 36 VDC. A low-loss, MOSFET-based protection circuit allows the unit to provide continuous reverse voltage protection. Attached systems are protected from incorrect, potentially damaging electrical supply connections. The filter also protects against over-current conditions. Should the demand exceed 28 amps, a warning signal is produced that can be used to disable the DSF500 or to turn off the attached systems, thus reducing current. Compliance to MIL-STD-461E (EMC) can also be achieved by following steps supplied with the application note. Find more information on the XP Powerwebsite.
