Thermo Fisher Scientific, well known for its lightning test systems, has moved to strengthen its position in Australia and New Zealand with its purchase of Biolab, a leading provider of analytical instruments, life science consumables, and laboratory equipment for scientific, environmental, and healthcare markets in Australia and New Zealand. The purchase price is reported to be AUD $175 million (approximately USD $125 million). The transaction is expected to be completed as of today April 30, 2009. Biolab is the scientific and medical division of Alesco Corporation Limited. During its 150-year history, Biolab has become well regarded for its market-leading product portfolio.
