A life-sized granite statue of Nikola Tesla was unveiled Monday by Serbian president Tomislav Nikolic in a dedication ceremony honoring the late Serbian-American scientist.
The monument stands near Wardenclyffe laboratory in Shoreham, N.Y. where Tesla did most of his work on wireless transmission between 1903 and 1915. The 16-acre property was purchased earlier this year by the Tesla Science Center with help from a highly publicized online fundraising campaign started by cartoonist Matthew Inman, founder of the website The Oatmeal. The Tesla Science Center plans to turn Tesla’s former laboratory into a museum.
