The newest range of MOV (metal oxide varistor) planar arrays from Syfer Technology provides comprehensive protection from lighting strikes and other transients in safety critical applications including the military and aerospace industries. These application specific MOV planar arrays are typically built into military-style filtered connectors, including circular shell sizes 8 to 24, the Arinc 600 and 400 series, the rectangular 24308 series, and regular sub-miniature and micro D types. The material response time of these devices is less than 500 ps, and they can provide protection against voltage spikes caused by power supply glitches and noisy switching circuits. Operating over the full military temperature range of -55 degrees C to +125 degrees C, the arrays are specified with leakage currents of 5 µA at 25 degrees C and 50 µA at 125 degrees C. Maximum working voltages range from 10 to 45 VDC and 7 to 35 VAC. Capacitance, measured at 1 Vrms at 1 kHZ, depends on working voltage, hole size, and unit thickness, but typically ranges from 3 nF at 10 VDC and 7 Vrms to 500 pF at 45 VDC 35 Vrms. With the planar arrays inherent capacitance, it can be used as a simple C filter or as one half of a Pi or unbalanced Pi filter. For more product information, contact Syfer Technology.
