Cord Sets Incorporate EMI/RFI Shielding
New M8 Picofast® cord sets from TURCK now offer the option of EMI/RFI shielding by connecting a braided shield directly to the coupling nut. This arrangement provides a cost-effective and reliable connection with 100 percent cable and connector shielding and affords protection against EMI and RFI. The 3- and 4-pin cord sets are available with Flexlife® PVC or PUR jacketed cable. All connectors deliver IEC IP 6.7 protection. The M8 Picofast line provides male and female, straight and angle connectors, standard and custom lengths, and pigtails or extensions. Fully encapsulate mating receptacles are also offered to complete the system. Look for more product information on the TURCK website. Low-Profile Shielding Cans Target Compact Design Applications
A comprehensive line of low-profile PCB shielding cans is now available from Tecan Ltd. Eight standard configurations include a four-sided can with a spring fingered lid, a four-sided surface-mount fence with a spring-fingered lid, a four-sided can with a tag-and-slot lid, a five-sided can formed and spot welded, a five-sided can formed for surface mount, a five-sided flat for self forming, a total enclosure with a spring-fingered lid, and a four-sided fence with two spring-finger lids. The standard pitch system utilizes covers 20 mm x 20 mm to 75 mm x 125 mm. Low-profile cans are available down to 2.5 mm in height. These PCB shields are manufactured using photo chemical machining (PCM) and punch/press tooling. More product information is available at the Tecan website. Patented PCB Shield Minimizes RF Leakage
The patented “Easy Access” RF Shield from Photo Fabrication, Inc. (PEI) incorporates an etched slot that is straight or staggered to minimize RF leakage. The tab connecting the lid to the RF shield can be easily snipped for access and then re-soldered in seconds for minimal downtime. Covers are manufactured from SAE1010 with solder plating and can be bent several times without fracturing. One side is etched with a patented process to allow the cover to be raised and lowered without the metal fatigue problems found in brass and copper. In two-piece construction, the cover can be placed over tabs and the tabs can be formed down to hold the cover in place on the fence. The tabs can be bent back up to remove the cover thus allowing easy access to the components. Look for additional product information at the PEI website. Cable Shielding Jacket for Original Design or Retrofit Applications
The SCB-ME series of cable shielding jackets from Intermark USA are made with multiple conductive layers for effective EMI shielding in various cable configurations. An insulating outer layer offers both electrical and environmental protection to the cables. A Velcro fastening system for convenient closing allows installation on pre-assembled cable harnesses or later insertion of additional lines and is well suited to fast maintenance and servicing operations. No tools are needed for installation. The lightweight, flexible material offers excellent conformity on various cable configurations, and a generous internal overlap of conductive layers prevents field losses and insures constant shielding effectiveness. A grounding braided wire runs along the jacket for easy connection to the grounding circuit of the system. Look for more product information on the Intermark USA website. Wire Mesh Elastomers for Applications with Substantial Joint Unevenness
The 1400 Range of wire mesh elastomer combinations from Arka Technologies are produced by vulcanizing shielding mesh, normally SnCuFe (tin plated, copper clad, steel wire) or Monel with a silicone or Neoprene elastomer. To create a reliable, low cost EMI shielding gasket with environmental sealing properties. These elastomers are particularly well suited for use in enclosure, window, or panel gaskets and applications where substantial joint unevenness is apparent. Choice of the exact shielding mesh should take into account the type of metals being interfaced to insure compatibility and the desired attenuation. These elastomers are available in a variety of cross sections and with adhesive backs either temporary or permanent. The DYNASHEAR™ foam-over-fabric gasket family from Schlegel Electronic Materials (SEM) has been crafted especially for card/cage applications. These gaskets insure maximum shielding even at low compression because of a unique D-shape design. The gaskets’ ultra-soft, open-cell polyurethane foam provides one of today’s best ratios of compression vs. load. The DYNASHEAR EMI shielding gasket remains effective in card/cage applications in which cumulative tolerances decrease the gap while increasing the compression on the gasket.Find more product information on the SEM website.
