New Ferrite Bead Melds High Current Capacity, Noise Suppression, & Low DC Resistance
The BLM18KG is the latest addition to Murata Electronics BLM Series. Compared to conventional 0603 power beads, the BLM18KG can manage 1.5 to 2 times the rated current and is capable of handling up to 6 amps. These 0603 sized ferrite beads can offer comparable performance to larger more expensive 0805 and 1206 power and wire-wound beads. Another benefit is its DC resistance that enables a low voltage drop resulting in lower power consumption. The DC resistance of the new BLM18KG is approximately 50 percent lower than that of conventional ferrite beads, an energy savings that facilitates longer battery life. The BLM18KG is well suited to a number of applications including power line filtering in portable devices such as PDAs, digital cameras, and cell phones. The WE-SL5 family of common mode line filters from Würth Elektronik has been extended with the addition of the WE-SL5 family HC for high currents. With impedances up to 1000 Ω, a current capability up to 89 VDS (42 VAC), the SMC line filters are well suited to use in power supplies. Additional features of the WE-SL5 HC are its 9.5 x 8.3 mm footprint and height profile of 5.5 mm. The WE-SL5 HCs can be reflow soldered and will work within an operating temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees C. In addition to use for noise suppression of common mode interference in power supplies, the WE-SL5 HCs can also be used to control interference on data signal and sensor lines. The CM1693 EMI filter from California Micro Devices (CMD) is based on a four-pole, inductor-based architecture crafted to meet the emerging high-speed interface requirements of wireless handset applications. Based on the company’s proprietary Praetorian III® EMI filtering technology, the new filter has a two-layer coupled inductor architecture and large value inductances that permit the use of lower capacitance Zener diodes. Other product features include roll-off frequencies at 300 MHz typical, broad stop band starting at 700 MHz up to 6 GHz, minimal insertion loss of Find more product information on the CMD website.Surface Mount Filters Eliminate Conducted EMI in Data Line Applications
The PDLFxxxL family of surface mount filters from Coilcraft eliminates the problem of conducted EMI in data line applications and provides common- and differential-mode noise attenuation. These devices reduce noise by a factor of 32 from 15 MHz to 300 MHz and provide 300 Vrms isolation and come in 4, 3, and 2 line versions. They are RHS-compliant. Samples of all values and through-hole versions are available in Coilcraft’s Designer’s Kit D303.Look for additional information on these filters at the Coilcraft website.
