An international team of researchers has assembled the first global map of magnetic peculiarities, or anomalies, dispersed around the globe. These magnetic anomalies are caused by differences in the magnetism of rocks within the crust of the Earth. This map is the result of many years of negotiations to gather confidential data from many governments and organizations. The unique magnetic signature of Earth’s crust has long been measured by numerous groups, but this map marks the first time a true worldwide view of the phenomena are available.
