The new EMIF04 – EAR02M8 from STMicroelectronics is an IC specially crafted to deliver superior sound quality in portable music players and “feature phones” by excluding high frequency interference. This new design is based on two of the company’s earlier offerings and combines the two different filtering characteristics required for microphone and speaker interfaces into a single integrated component. This IC measures 1.5 mm x 1.7 mm and can replace a network of discrete components, thus conserving board real estate and boosting design flexibility. It features high attenuation of signal frequencies from 900 MHz to 1900 MHz. The EMIF04– EAR02M8 also provides the required protection against ESD spikes up to 30 kV in direct contact with the signal connections and is touted as being more effective than passive ESD-protection components. The device is available in micro-QFN 8-lead packaging.Further product details can be found on the STMicroelectronics’ website.
