On Friday, February 13, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) formally issued a Notice of Presumed Hazard for Cape Wind, the wind farm project proposed for Nantucket Sound off the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. According to the notice, the project would affect three FAA radar sites in North Truro, Nantucket, and at Otis Air Force Base that provide detection of air craft for Air Traffic Control. Opponents of the project have long contended that wind turbines can cause radar interference and can reduce the probability of detecting small aircraft. The FAA Notice cited proposed structures that “exceed obstruction standards and/or would have an adverse physical or electromagnetic effect upon navigable air space or air navigation facilities.”Find the FAA notice posted online.
