In another sign of turbulent times in the aerospace industry, just last week engineers at Boeing’s Wichita, KS facility voted down Boeing’s latest contract officer. Following the recommendations of union negotiators, members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), Local 2001 voted 209 to 28 to reject the offer. Boeing has offered three-percent salary increase pools, an increase in out-of-pocket medical costs, and the elimination of pensions for new employees. Employees at the Wichita plant had been working on a contract extension since December 5 when the old contract expired. At present the union and Boeing are discussing when negotiations can resume. For more details, see the SPEEA website.
