The Navy’s new electromagnetic catapult, the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, (EMALS) has successfully been installed on the USS Gerald R. Ford, replacing the steam catapults previously used to launch aircraft.
Because EMALS yields less maintenance, more control, more reliability and a lighter weight, the Navy decided it will be used on all future aircraft carriers in the Ford class.
