Despite all the new regulations being in place, or being developed, for use of drones, they are prolific and inexpensive enough that invariably, there will be some level of misuse. While they can be jammed, forced to auto-land, or captured with nets, the result may be more dangerous than its worth. However, the Dutch National Police have started training eagles to take them down.
The Dutch police have partnered with Guard From Above, a raptor training company based in Denmark. After snatching the drone, the eagles find a safe place to land and are given a food treat as a reward.
There are some concerns with larger drones which use carbon fiber propellers, and some study on protecting the eagles legs is being done.
