Texas Instruments plans to buy National Semiconductor. The move would make TI the world’s third largest chipmaker. The semiconductor firm immediately assuaged concerns about engineering layoffs by noting, “TI’s goal is 100 percent retention of the product, engineering, manufacturing and sales functions.” Texas Instruments says it also plans to spend money to upgrade National Semiconductor labs in Scotland and South Portland, Maine.Learn more from Texas Instruments.
