A special unit of China’s People’s Liberation Army is training 10,000 messenger pigeons to deliver vital military communications. China has had a division of military homing pigeons since 1950. Chen Cuntao, the officer responsible for this army, said that pigeons would be an effective communication tool “if there is electromagnetic interference or a collapse in our signals.”
