Software Optimizes Wind Farm Location to Reduce Telecom Interference
Researchers collaborating on the SOPCAWIND project have developed software to optimize wind farm placement, in order to reduce noise, environmental impact, and telecommunications interference. Wind farms, while a valuable and viable source of energy, reportedly meeting up to 8 percent of Europe’s energy needs, are accompanied by significant drawbacks; namely, noise … [Read more...]
Toyota Avalon Recall to Fix Airbag Glitch
Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling more than 120,000 Toyota Avalon 2003 and 2004 models to fix an electrical issue that may inadvertently cause the airbags to deploy. The Japanese automaker announced last week the vehicles are being recalled because certain circuits in the airbag control module may be susceptible to internal shortening resulting from exposure to electrical noise … [Read more...]
View Our Webinar: Cost Effective Use of Close Field Probing Part II
Overview: This webinar – number 2 in a series of 2 – describes simple, low-cost, cost-effective, qualitative EMC bench-testing techniques for emissions and immunity, using close-field probes (that many people make themselves) and low-cost portable measuring instruments. These practical techniques can be used in every stage of a product’s lifecycle, from … [Read more...]
IEC 61260-1:2014: Electroacoustics – Octave-Band and Fractional-Octave-Band Filters – Part 1: Specifications
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published IEC 61260-1:2014, “Electroacoustics - Octave-Band and Fractional-Octave-Band Filters - Part 1: Specifications." The new standard is available in the IEC’s webstore here. "IEC 61260-1:2014 specifies performance requirements for analogue, sampled-data, and digital implementations of band-pass filters. The extent … [Read more...]
Inductor Tuning Method Could Shrink Cell Phones
Scientists at Northeastern University in Massachusetts have devised a new method of tuning radio frequency circuits that could reduce the size and improve the performance of smartphones and other RF devices. “Every radio-frequency resonance circuit has two components: an inductor and a capacitor. [However,] for the many decades that we've been using RF devices, we've only been … [Read more...]
Question and Answer Session for 'EMC Troubleshooting Tools and Techniques' Webinar
Presenter: Ken Wyatt, Senior EMC Engineer, Wyatt Technical Services LLC Question: What you describe is good for big PC boards. How do you handle first EMC measurements for very small PC boards (like the size of a pencil)? Answer: I did have to evaluate a medical product with a very small PC board. For emissions, I’d test like any other board. However, for identifying … [Read more...]
