California-based AWR, well-known designer of electronic design software, has acquired a Wisconsin firm that develops RF and microwave simulation software. Simulation Technology and Applied Research (STAAR) of Mequon, WI is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of AWR. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. STAAR will remain in the same location, where it develops 3D parallelized FEM tools for electromagnetic simulation of RF microwave components and subsystems.STAAR’s software is used in conjunction with AWR’s own high frequency EDA tools. STAAR’s 3D FEM simulation and analysis capability is utilized in its Analyst™ software package, the result of more than a decade of collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Energy. Analysis of EM fields in complex structures, such as complete monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), densely-populated RF circuit boards, and multi-function modules, frequently requires amounts of memory and processing power that can overwhelm even high-end workstations. Analyst™ software addresses this shortcoming by employing scalable decomposition algorithms to optimize cluster computer resources for reduced computation times and increased accuracy.Read the original announcement on the AWR website.
