AE Techron, Inc. announces the availability of its new 8500 series amplifier line, a new Class D design that offers high-power operation at frequencies previously unavailable in a switch-mode power amplifier. 8500 series amplifiers feature a DC to 50-kHz bandwidth with a slew rate of up to 60 V/us. Models with a long-term power rating of up to 20 kW (up to 100 kVA of apparent power) are available.
In addition, the 8500 series offers low-distortion operation that approaches the performance levels found in linear amplifier designs. The line is capable of AC voltages from 0 to 277 V RMS, and maximum continuous output current ranges among models from 60A to 300A. Like all PWM designs, the 8500 series provides high-efficiency operation in a light-weight, cost-effective package.
Larry Shank, AE Techron President, explains: “The amplifier’s conservative design allows it to reprocess power returned from reactive loads to achieve apparent power that is up to 5X rated power. This, coupled with its ability to operate at frequencies of up to 50 kHz, provides a solution for many of the difficult test applications found in the EV Vehicle compliance and life testing. It is a big improvement over traditional solutions for driving the large Piezo arrays found in sonar and is also great for conducted immunity testing of virtually any electronic system that has capacitive-based energy storage in its power supply. The capabilities presented by the 8500 series of amplifiers is unique among switch-mode amplifiers available today.”
The 8500 Series models range in size from a 3U, single-phase, benchtop model to mini rack systems. All models offer easy, in-field configuration of user controls including current limit, operation mode, output impedance and amplifier gain via back-panel switches.
