Last year the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC) launched an awareness program drawing attention to the importance of international standards and standardization. The program is aimed at a range of audiences, both those directly involved in standardization because of their work or profession and those with little or no knowledge of electrical standards and their relevance to everyday life. JISC prepared a wide-ranging assortment of educational materials geared to a cross section of society—including children, adolescents, the business world, and academia. Experts from JISC and from JSA (Japanese Standards Association) visited 14 schools across Japan. JISC experts and trainers from private companies also visited 20 universities, where they gave 90-minute lectures focusing on electronics, information technology, and electrical engineering.
