A new series of connectors from Spectrum Control incorporates EMI or ESD protection in an industry standard USB package. These connectors satisfy the requirements of the USB 2.0 spec, which calls for EMI and ESD protection according to industry specifications. Locating the EMI or ESD protection in the connector frees up increasingly precious PCB real estate. These devices are drop-in replacements for unfiltered connectors making them a logical choice in the ongoing miniaturization of peripheral devices. With built-in filtering, the substitution of these connectors for non-filtered ones can obviate the need for complete PCB redesign in the event of non-compliance during EMI or ESD testing. These connectors have a working voltage of 5 VDC with a current rating of 1 amp max and a contact resistance of 30 mΩ max. These filtered connectors are available with either a capacitive filter for USB 1.1 or with an inductive filter for USB 2.0. For additional product details, visit the Spectrum Controlwebsite.
