World Standards Day is observed each October 14 to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who collaborate with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Standards Organization (ISO), and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to develop voluntary international standards that facilitate trade, spread knowledge, and disseminate technological advances. “Intelligent and sustainable buildings” is the theme of this year’s observance. The World Standards Day message is signed by the leaders of the three principal international standardization organizations: Mr. Jacques Régis, President of the IEC, Mr. Håkan Murby, President of the ISO), and Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General of the ITU. The leaders of the three organizations conclude their message: “International standards help to ensure not only basic quality and safety requirements, but also the incorporation of new technologies for the construction and operation of intelligent and sustainable buildings.” Look for the original message on the IEC website. Testing to international standards is vital to commerce and prosperity. Track the latest testing challenges and changes, or post some questions of your own.
