Washington residents can submit comments through Sept. 28 on a Navy project that would build electromagnetic sensors on the sea floor of Hood Canal by dredging 1.45 acres of sea floor off shore of Naval Base Kitsap.
The public’s comments will be included in a formal environmental assessment by the Navy.
The sensors would read and record the electromagnetic signatures of Naval Base Kitsap-based submarines as they travel through through Hood Canal. Currently, submarines must travel for as long as two weeks to San Diego or Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to have their electromagnetic signatures read.
