British engineering and electronics firms Smiths Group has bought Triasx Pty Ltd, a Brisbane-based wireless communications components manufacturer, from private owners for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition of Triasx expands Smiths’ Interconnects microwave business and adds the design and development of complex radio frequency filter products for the wireless communications market, including the recent development of interference affecting mobile phone base stations. Ralph Phillips, acting president of Smiths Interconnect, noted, “Triasx had in-depth knowledge of the telecommlunications radio frequency market and an excellent R&D capability. Triasx’ interference testing devices fit well with our existing Summitek business, and together they will offer an unparalleled range of interference testing solutions. For the 12 months ended June 30, 2008, Triasx posted estimated sales of £12.5 million. The official announcement is on the Smiths Group’s website.
