The Wireless Research Center of North Carolina announces FokusLab’s launch of the RE-vibe wrist band. The RE-vibe wrist band uses an algorithm to determine when users are off-task and it sends them a vibrating reminder to get back to work.
“It’s currently estimated that more than 1 in 10 children ages 4-17 struggle to stay on-task while learning and completing school work,” according to a recent study. FokusLab’s new wrist band solves this problem and helps students focus via its technology.
“The pre-programed wristband sends vibrating reminder signals, much like a tap on the shoulder. It is not uncommon for children who regularly daydream and are off-task to suffer a lack of self-esteem, a feeling that they can’t do things on their own – without someone reminding them. RE-vibe empowers them to be more self-sufficient, more independent,” FokusLab states.
This idea came from school psychologist Rich Brancaccio, who works with autistic children and children with ADHD. Brancaccio’s frustration in not being able to help certain students stay on task led to the production of the Re-vibe.
Features of the Re-vibe include three different reminder levels, a homework setting, distraction-free design: free of buttons, screens and sound effects, hidden LEDs to warn user of low battery, 7 day battery life on one charge, velcro-adjustable, washable band, rugged plastic enclosure, and a modern design with choice of many colors.
A prototype of the Re-vibe wrist band has been produced and a patent for its software is currently pending.
