Scientific and business media firm Springer has announced that a member of its editorial board Alexander G. Litvak will receive the 2008 Kenneth J. Button Prize, which is administered by the Institute of Physics in London. This award is based on his outstanding contributions to research on plasma physics and the generation and amplification of coherent millimeter wave, terahertz, and infrared radiation. The prize includes a bronze medal, a certificate, and a cash sum of £2000. Litvak will receive the prize at the 33rd International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz 2008) that will take place in Pasadena, CA September 15 to 19, 2008. On September 17, he will deliver a plenary address to the delegates. Litvak’s research interests include plasma physics, radio-physics, high-power electronics. and nonlinear dynamics of wave processes. He teaches courses in plasma physics at N.I.
