The current issue of the journal Pathophysiology is a special edition with several articles focusing on electromagnetic fields from cell phones and other wireless technologies and their effect on human health and the environment. Researchers from six countries have contributed fifteen chapters covering possible health risks to humans and wildlife. Titles of the articles include: “Long-term Exposure to Magnetic Fields and the Risks of Alzheimer’s Disease and Breast Cancer,” “Reproductive and Developmental Effects of EMF in Vertebrate Animal Models,” “Electromagnetic Fields Stress Living Cells,” and “Epidemiological Evidence for an Association Between Use of Wireless Phones and Tumor Diseases.”One overriding theme in each article was the call for a more precautionary approach, to limit exposure to EMFs and radiofrequency radiation and to reexamine current safety standards, which many of the authors deemed inadequate.
