British telecom regulator Ofcom has published the list of approved bidders for the upcoming auction of L-Band spectrum. L-Band designates the spectrum from 1452 MHz to 1492 MHz. Ofcom has split the spectrum offerings, each of which is 1.7 MHz wide. One larger swathe at the top of the range is 12.5 MHz wide. As the UK media have pointed out, the list of bidders is not particularly illuminating. Some are simply names traceable to a solicitor’s office. Among the more interesting bidders are MLL Telecom, which provides enterprise networks around the UK; mobile telecom provider O2; global wireless technology provider Qualcomm; and satellite radio provider World Space. Find the entire list at the Ofcom website. The 700-MHz auction is history, and the big telecoms are buying up any available spectrum. What will finite supply of spectrum have on the future of wireless? Post your views at the Telecommunications Community Forum.
