TÜV Rheinland is advising companies responsible for electronics manufacturing to take note that CENELEC has accepted a new product safety standard, IEC 62368-1. This standard addresses the technology required in order for a product to perform both audio/video and computing functions, according to the company. TÜV Rheinland urges companies to adhere to this new standard before June 2019, when the standard will become permanent.
“Many decisions go into determining the easiest and most cost-effective way to comply with a new standard. For example, the current date of switching to Amendment 2 of EN 60950-1 is July 2, 2016 in Europe. Manufacturers need to decide before 2016 whether to transition to Amendment 2 of EN 60950-1 or certify directly to EN 62368-1,” Uwe Meyer, technical manager at TÜV Rheinland, said.
