TI recently announced two new families of controller area network (CAN) transceivers that meet all industry standards for EMC from both U.S. and European auto manufacturers.
Key features include compliance to SAE J2962, European IBEE, CISPR 22, IEC 61000-4-6 up to 10V IEC 61000-4-4 Criteria A to ±4kV, and IEC 61000-4-3 from 80 MHz to 2.7 GHz and 100 V/m.
Even more importantly, the new series allows for the removal of common-mode chokes, usually required for filtering, which reduces BOM cost and frees up extra real estate. There is also built-in ESD protection up to ±15kV, which eliminates the need for protection diodes or transient protection devices.
Evaluation modules are available for both TCAN1042 and TCAN1051 families.
