The University of Minnesota is planning to move an underground nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) research laboratory because the lab’s highly sensitive magnets are incompatible with the vibrations and electromagnetic interference that will be produced by a proposed light rail project. The university estimates it would cost $15 million to $20 million to move the lab, which would be located 70 feet from the newly constructed Central Corridor train tracks.
