The IEEE has announced the selection of E. James Prendergast as its new Executive Director. Dr. Prendergast will serve as chief operating officer and will manage more than 1000 IEEE staff members at seven U.S. and overseas locations. He will assume his duties on April 6, 2009. His appointment comes after a nearly eight month search by the IEEE’s Board of Directors. He joins the staff during the IEEE’s 125th anniversary year, as the organization commemorates “125 Years of Engineering the Future.” A member of the IEEE for 32 years, Prendergast is a native Australian who received undergraduate degrees from the University of Sydney and a Ph.D. in electrical Engineering from Cambridge.See the original announcement online.
