In a recent speech to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Council, IEC President Dr. Klaus Wucherer said that while standards and conformity assessment systems will remain essential for industry, governments and other end-users, the IEC’s involvement cannot remain static. In this increasingly competitive world, the IEC, in addition to providing a high level of efficiency and service, will also need to openly assert its expertise, capabilities and experience. It needs to actively build awareness of the value it adds amongst leaders in the private and public sectors.Wucherer closed his speech, given during the IEC General Meeting in Melbourne, Australia, by underlining the growing importance of the IEC: “Electricity is omnipresent, in components, products, systems, and its importance is growing. Electricity is our core area of expertise, and it is part of everybody’s future. Wherever there is electricity, the IEC needs to be involved.”Founded in 1906, the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is the world’s leading organization for the preparation and publication of International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
