Former Nokia executive Simon Beresford-Wylie has been appointed chief executive of Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited (DMSL), the non-profit organization created in October 2012 to ensure that Freeview TV signals do not suffer interference after 4G mobile is launched on the 800 MHz band in the United Kingdom.
Approximately 2.3 million homes are expected to experience TV image distortion and channel loss caused by interference with the new 4G network.
An employee of Nokia since 2005, Beresford-Wylie rose from his position as head of the networks division to chief executive in 2007. He later took over as chief executive of smart meter company Elster Group between 2009 and 2012.
“I look forward to working closely with broadcasters and mobile network operators to ensure everyone continues to be able to receive their current TV service,” said Beresford-Wylie.
“DMSL plans to pre-empt the majority of potential interference issues caused by 4G at 800 MHz and existing TV services. We’re focused on being able to provide anyone who may be affected with the information and equipment they’ll need to ensure they continue to receive free-to-air TV,” he added.
