The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a white paper that examines international comparisons of licensed and unlicensed spectrum available for mobile broadband services.
The whitepaper, “The Mobile Broadband Spectrum Challenge: International Comparisons,” covers how different countries are actively working towards satisfying the growing demand for mobile broadband services and includes information on licensed spectrum use collected from the U.S. and nine other countries, as well as information on unlicensed spectrum use collected from the U.S. and Europe.
According to the whitepaper, of the countries surveyed, Australia ranks highest with respect to amount of spectrum currently or soon to be available for mobile broad services, while the U.S. is ranked second highest. The U.K., Germany and Spain rank third, fourth and fifth highest respectively. The U.S. ranks higher than Europe with respect to unlicensed spectrum available for mobile broadband services.
