The European Commission has reached a decision not to raise any objections under EC Treaty state aid rules to the financial support of €61 million granted by France to the LOwCO2MOTION research and development program. The purpose of this program is to introduce innovative products to improve engine efficiency and to reduce fuel consumption. One such technology goal is the development of electromagnetic engine valve controls to replace the mechanical camshaft. The ultimate goals are improved fuel efficiency and a consequent reduction in environmental pollutants. See the official European Commission press releaseonline.
