Following the Tuesday release of a Wi-Fi Checker app, it was revealed that Christmas lights can affect Wi-Fi signal performance.
Wi-Fi is susceptible to interference because it is an RF signal, and “other devices operating within the same or similar frequency range” can pose a problem, says Mashable. Unshielded wiring such as Christmas lights can interfere with RF signals as weak as Wi-Fi being used in the same building.
Although the interference may not be significant, manually running internet speed tests by plugging and unplugging Christmas lights will help reveal any difference in performance.
