Ultrahaptics showed off their invisible tactile interface at the recent Consumer Electronics Show where, without needing to wear or touch anything, users can control devices such as stovetop settings or car navigation systems.
The technology is “based on a Leap Motion sensor that tracks the location of your hand in space paired with an array of ultrasonic transducers,” according to Spectrum IEEE.
“The transducers generate ultrasonic waves that constructively interfere with each other where they intersect, generating targeted points of invisible turbulence that you can feel,” reported Spectrum IEEE.
Later this year Ultrahaptics may announce affordable products using this tech.
