The Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS) developed by defense contractor ITT Exelis has completed electromagnetic compatibility testing at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The company is contracted to produce more than 160 AIDEWS systems for six nations as part of the F-16 Foreign Military Sales program; the EMC testing at Edwards Air Force Base was part of the qualification process for the Pakistan F-16 upgrade program.
According to the company, the completion of EMC testing, “speaks volumes about our system’s capability and maturity … [and shows] that we already have a well-integrated, effective system to protect the F-16.”
AIDEWS provides pilots with “situational awareness and protection against radar-based threats as well as surface-to-air and air-to-air weapons.” The six-week testing program utilized multiple radio frequency systems operating simultaneously to ensure AIDEWs will not interfere with other electronic systems integrated into the aircraft.
