Recent testing has found that placing electromagnetic coils against the scalp stimulates brain cells to “form new connections, allowing the brain to rewire itself to compensate for damage caused by a stroke.” In Italy, researchers looked at patients with hemispatial neglect, a common problem with stroke victims where they are “unable to see or recognize anything on one side of their body, even though their eyes work just fine.”
They conducted a study with 20 patients where some received 10 sessions of magnetic treatments and others received a sham treatment. The ones with the magnetic treatment had improved stimulation by 22 percent, where there was no change for the sham treatment patients.
