Less than a week after approving eight of 17 wind turbine locations without any restrictions at the Massachusetts Military Reservation, the Federal Aviation Administration has reversed its decision on five of the approved sites. The FAA now says those five locations at the Upper Cape base — all within the area used for military training and near the Falmouth town line — pose a presumed hazard to air navigation at heights above 213 feet. In June, the Massachusetts National Guard filed applications to erect as many as 17 wind turbines, each at a height of 400 feet.”Initial findings of this study indicate that the structure as described exceeds obstruction standards and/or would have an adverse physical or electromagnetic interference effect upon navigable airspace or air navigation facilities,” the FAA states in its findings.Learn more at the Cape Cod New Web site.
