Parents are suing Fay School, a boarding school in Southborough, Mass., over claims that the school’s Wi-Fi signal is making their 12-year-old son sick.
According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the parents claim their son has ‘Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Syndrome’ and has suffered from nausea, nosebleeds and headaches since the school activated a stronger wireless signal in 2013.
The school issued a statement and noted that its Wi-Fi signal is within the federal safety limits. “Isotrope’s assessment was completed in January 2015 and found that the combined levels of access point emissions, broadcast radio and television signals, and other RFE emissions on campus were substantially less than one ten-thousandth (1/10,000th) of the applicable safety limits (federal and state),” the school stated.
The family has filed a lawsuit and is seeking $250,000 in damages. The family also wants the school to turn down the Wi-Fi signal or switch to Ethernet cable internet.
