Ironwood Electronics recently debuted a new BGA socket design that uses a high performance elastomer capable of 75GHz. The clamshell socket offers low inductance and a wide operating temperature range of -55 to +160 degrees Celsius.
“The GT-BGA-2029 socket is designed for 35×35 mm package size and operates at bandwidths up to 75GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The socket is designed to dissipate few watts using compression screw and can be customized up to 100 watts with modified fin design on top of the screw and adding axial flow fan,” according to the company.
This new socket can be mounted on a PCB without the need for soldering. It is also compact, which allows room for capacitors and resistors on the PCB.
