Russia has announced its top 5 most effective electronic warfare (EW) Systems: Khibiny, Moskva-1, Krasukha-2, Rtut’-BM, and President-S.
The Khibiny is a small torpedo shaped container that is mounted on wingtips of aircraft that increases the survival rate of aircrafts by 25-30 percent. After the aircraft has received an alert of a missile attack, the Khibiny covers the aircraft with a radio-electronic protective hood. This hood prevents an enemy missile from affecting the aircraft and diverts it elsewhere.
The Moskva-1 is a passive radar system that allows Russian troops to receive data and see airborne targets from 400 km away without emitting any signals of its own, making it invisible to the enemy. The Moskva-1 scans the airspace and determines if objects are missiles, or aircraft and then transmits data to its command post. The operator at the command post will then decide if the object should be destroyed or not.
The Krasukha-2 is a ground electronic warfare device that is programmed to protect the air defence, ground facilities, and troops on the march.
“PTRC Iskander and other similar complexes are quite defenceless on the march. Krasukha enables them to easily reach the given destination and deploy the combat crew. Once Krasukha notices the enemy AWACS, it affects its radar with an interfering radiation within a radius of 250 km. Such jamming radio-electronic suppresion makes precise weapon guidance impossible,” according to a report..
The Krasukha-2 has another feature in which it can influence the brain of fired missiles and change its target, which results in the missiles hitting false targets.
The Rtut’-BM is one of the most advanced electronic warfare systems and it is designed to protect soldiers and equipment from artillery fire, in case artillery has proximity fuses.
“In order to cause irreparable damage to manpower and weapons, proximity fuse must explode at the height of 3-5 meters. Rtut’ affects proximity-fused ammunition making it explode at a safe height, which keeps the troops intact,” according to product information.
The Rtut’-BM can protect an area of over 123 acres and can also destroy frequencies that enemies use for communication.
The President-S is an optical-electronic suppression device that can protect aircraft from destruction during missile attacks. During testing, missiles were fired from 1000 meters away and none of them reached the target aircraft. Electronic interference created by the President-S complex caused every single missile to deviate away from its intended target.
