Bob Goldblum, founder and publisher emeritus of ITEM Media and Interference Technology, was presented with the IEEE Symposium Hall of Fame Award at its Awards Luncheon Thursday, Aug. 9.
Goldblum was editor of the EMC Newsletter for more than 30 years. He received his BSEE in 1961 and his Masters of Engineering, Engineering Science in 1967.
He started his career at ARK Electronics, an RFI test laboratory in Willow Grove, Pa. He also worked at Sylvania Electronics in Waltham, Mass., and AEL in Philadelphia. After receiving his master’s degree he joined General Electric Valley Forge Space Technology Center in King of Prussia, Pa., where he was the section head of the EMC Design Group. He developed an EMC design course for The Center for Professional Advancement.
In 1968, he was elected chairman of the 1971 IEEE EMC Symposium. He noted the need for a publication dedicated to EMI products and services. He formed “ITEM – Interference Technology Engineer’s Master” in 1971. By 1974, he had published four annual issues of ITEM and left GE for consulting opportunities.
Goldblum ended his term as editor of the EMC Newsletter in 1997. He now spends winters in Florida and summers in the Philadelphia area – staying close to the ITEM Media office in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
