The possibility of an uninterrupted electric ride along the entire U.S. West Coast came closer recently with the opening of more charging stations in Washington state. Ten new public charging stations mean that electric vehicle (EV) drivers can now travel emission-free from Seattle to the Canadian border. If fully realized, the “West Coast Electric Highway” will connect California, Oregon, and Washington with EV transportation stations along I-5 – distance of nearly 1,400 miles that extends from Mexico to Canada.
The ten new stations in northern Washington were unveiled by the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and charging station manufacturer AeroVironment. Most sites were conveniently placed near shopping and entertainment venues, and two sites offer free charging. AeroVironment intends to have covered the entire stretch of I-5 by the end of the year and plans to add extensions for other day trips into cities like Portland.
